EDITORS OPINION: SQUEEZING THE NUMBERS.

EDITORS OPINION: SQUEEZING THE NUMBERS.

The Buckwheat Valley Citizens Coalition (BVCC)  has been very aware of recent public statements by vested interests who want to push "High Voltage-High Capacity" national electric grid proposals through the regulatory process in Wisconsin, and other midwestern states. In order to accomplish their goals they have skillfully put together data that represents their version of need and reliability. However, BVCC is also skilled in the interpretation of those numbers and finds many such claims to be flawed and skewed. BVCC cautions all consumers to be aware of what we call "Squeezing" the numbers. This a process where by numbers (data) are taken and compressed to make the end result of those numbers represent the goals of the "Squeezer." When you hear special interest claims like: increased reliability, has the potential of, we anticipate, we expect, estimates are, could bring in, and other such phrases, think about the use of "Squeezing" and see if it applies to claims you see in the media. If you have followed other special interest endeavors, you know exactly what I mean. If your are new to the term "Squeezing" you will be enlightened when you wake up to how wide spread this practice is in our American culture. The old adage: "What you see, is not always what you get" is very appropriate in understanding this concept.
