BVCC NEWS REPORT. POSTED: June 20, 2011.

SIERRA CLUB PUBLISHES TRANSMISSION LINE POSITION
"PULL THE PLUG ON COAL BY WIRE".

Buckwheat Valley Citizens Coalition (BVCC) is pleased to see that the Sierra Club's Maryland Chapter (still waiting on the Wisconsin Chapter to wake up) has published its position statement on high-voltage-high-capacity (HVHC) electric transmission lines. This is a comprehensive history of Maryland's citizen struggle to stop the proposed Pontomac Edison Company's "Pontomac Appalachian Transmission Highline" (PATH). It also chronicles the history behind U.S. Federal energy policy from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the goings-0n of local politics, and the tenacity of citizens who objected to the  PATH-HVHC proposal (until it was defeated). Of special interest are the citizen arguments against the PATH proposal based on reduced historic and projected energy use data. This is encouraging news to Wisconsin citizens who may not know their own strengths, when it comes to "fighting a good fight" or "challenging a tough challenge." Keep the lights on!
